Five Finger Death Punch takes a cue from Taylor Swift, re-recording their classic hits

Taylor Swift inspired heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch to re-record their earlier hits in honor of the band’s 20th anniversary this summer.

Ooh, look what you made them do.

Five Finger Death Punch, a hard rock and heavy metal band that originated in Las Vegas in 2005, has taken a page out of Taylor Swift’s book. After recently discovering that their original master recordings were sold by their former label, Prospect Park, the band was inspired by Swift to re-record their classic hits.

“Her actually doing it, battle-testing it, gave everyone real-life telemetry. A proof of concept,” 5FDP founder and rhythm guitarist Zoltan Bathory exclusively told Page Six, when asked how the pop star played a role in their decision.

“Now there’s precedent, an actual measurable example that it’s worth the heavy lifting. After that proven chess move, artists choosing to respond the same way are not jumping into this blind.”

The “Wrong Side of Heaven” rocker also told us that seeing the 5FDP x Swift crossover amongst their fans online has been “beautiful chaos.”

Like Swift, the band recently discovered that their original master recordings were sold without their knowledge.

“Metalheads and Swifties in the same comment sections, in agreement, writing a quite unexpected symphony. Clearly, this one is not about genres. It’s about principles,” he explained. “It’s about truth that resonates, passion that resonates. I don’t know if it ends up leading there, but it would definitely be an interesting collab… some people could for sure use a Swift Five Finger Death Punch.”

Like Swift’s experience with her own former label — which resulted in a years-long feud with record executive Scooter Braun — 5FDP’s recordings were sold without their knowledge. When asked how the band reacted to the news, Bathory (who is also a martial artist) didn’t hold back in his response.

“I could quote our favorite octagon poet, Nate Diaz, right after submitting his highly favored opponent, Conor McGregor. He delivered a timeless gem of humanity, right up there with Oscar Wilde and Marcus Aurelius: ‘I’m not surprised, motherf–kers,’” he recalled.

“That pretty much sums it up. The only surprise was how casually it happened. No call, no heads-up. We found out from a third party after the fact.”

“Metalheads and Swifties in the same comment sections … clearly, this one is not about genres. It’s about principles,” Zoltan Bathory exclusively told Page Six about the fun crossover between their fan bases. Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management

Bathory admitted, however, that there was some slight hesitation when deciding whether fully re-recording their earlier hits was the right move.

“The real question was whether we should turn the other cheek, like most artists are either forced to do or begrudgingly choose to do, or … maul them rascals with righteous fury and the thunder of drop-tuned guitars,” he joked, raising a fist in the air. “These songs are sacred to us and to the fans, so re-recording them or altering them in any way felt dangerously close to sacrilege. That was our real dilemma.”

Eventually, Five Finger Death Punch “made peace with the idea” that they would not be “erasing the past” or “replacing” the originals.

“We’re giving the fans something extra. An alternative. A 2025 version that stands beside the old ones; not in place of them,” Bathory told us.

“20 Years of Five Finger Death Punch – Best Of, Volume 1,” out July 18, will serve as a “tribute to the fans, the legacy and the music,” Bathory told us. Redferns

20 Years of Five Finger Death Punch – Best Of, Volume 1,” out July 18, will feature re-recorded classics and three previously unreleased live tracks including “I Refuse (2025 Version)” feat. Maria Brink of In This Moment.

The 17-track album will also honor the 20th anniversary of the band’s formation — a true “tribute to the fans, the legacy and the music.”

“We know (our fans) well, they’re our extended family. They have been with us for two decades. When the re-records drop, they’ll understand the assignment,” Bathory proclaimed. “They know exactly why we did it, and they’ll be right there with us, like they always have been.”

Stevie Nicks revealed she is working on an “autobiographical” album — her first project of entirely new material since 2011’s “In Your Dreams.”

The legendary singer teased what she called “the ghost record” while being inducted into the Pollstar Live! Hall of Fame on April 16.

“I have seven songs, and they are … real stories where I’m not pulling any punches for probably the first time in my life. They are not airy, fairy songs that you are wondering who they’re about but you don’t really get it. They’re real stories of memories of mine of fantastic men,” she said, citing the late Prince as one muse.

The event also honored Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Jelly Roll, Missy Elliott, Taylor Swift, Usher and Dead & Company, the latter of which won residency of the year for its “Dead Forever” show at Sphere in Las Vegas.

Backstage, Nicks posed for a photo with Dead & Company members Bob Weir and John Mayer.

The Millennium Tour hits the Dallas-Fort Worth area

If I had one wish … it would be to go back to the Millennium Tour 2025.

The 25-city trek, produced by the Black Promoters Collective and co-headlined by Trey Songz, Omarion and Bow Wow, made its way to the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area on March 28 for a celebration of R&B and hip-hop from the 2000s.

The tour features a star-studded lineup, including Nivea, Plies, Boosie, the Ying Yang Twins, RSVP and special guest Rick Ross.

The sold-out crowd in the Dickies Arena was filled with fans who wore their best throwback outfits, from airbrushed shirts to jersey dresses.

The show kicked off with a short but energetic set by Nivea, who performed her classic hits “Okay,” “Don’t Mess With My Man” and “Complicated.”

Next to hit the stage were the Ying Yang Twins, who had everyone on their feet during their 15-minute performance of “Salt Shaker,” “Wait,” “Say I Yi Yi” and “Whistle While You Twurk.” Despite being in their 40s, Kaine and D-Roc made their presence felt on every side of the stage.

RSVP, a group comprised of Ray J, Sammie, Bobby V and former Pretty Ricky singer Pleasure P, were the next to hit the stage, delivering a standout set that included each of their solo hit songs.

Bobby V stole the show by showing off his piano skills, handing out red roses to the ladies and showing everyone his mic was on during his performance of “Mrs. Officer.”

Next up was Boosie, who kicked off his performance with his hit song “Wipe Me Down.” A highlight of the Louisiana native’s set was his tribute to Dallas rapper MO3, who was shot and killed in November 2020. Boosie performed their hit song “Everybody.” (Just a week before the show, rapper Yella Beezy had been charged with hiring a hitman to kill MO3.)

Bow Wow kicked off his 30-minute set by jumping out of the floor and performing his Chris Brown-assisted hit, “Shortie Like Mine.” Getty Images

Rounding out the performances before the co-headliners took the stage were Rick Ross and then Plies.

While Plies’ show was very high-energy, Ross’ performance left us questioning why he was even added to the tour. Honestly, this can be the time you take a bathroom break or head back to the bar.

Bow Wow kicked off his 30-minute set by jumping out of the floor and performing his Chris Brown-assisted hit, “Shortie Like Mine.” He also performed “Like You,” “Let Me Hold You” and “Outta My System.”

During his show, Bow, born Shad Moss, revealed that his eldest daughter, Shai, 13, was present with his friends and had recently become a resident of Dallas after her mom Joie Chavis’ house burned in the Los Angeles wildfires.

Omarion took it back with a few B2K hits.

Omarion was next to perform — and thanks to people making fun of how his chest looked at another show, he kept his shirt on for the full set. He performed his solo hits, such as “O,” “Touch” and “Post to Be.”

He also took it back with a few B2K hits … but lacked the nostalgia without Lil Fizz, Raz B and J Boog onstage with him.

Last, but certainly not least, was Trey Songz, who wooed the ladies with his R&B hits “Love Faces,” “Neighbors Know My Name” and “Panty Droppa.” Halfway through his set, he brought out Dallas rapper Dorrough, who performed his 2009 hit, “Ice Cream Paint Job.”

When Trey concluded his set by performing “Bottoms Up,” he took off his black tank top, rubbed it all over his sweaty face and abs and threw it into the crowd for a lucky fan to have.

A number of bands and artists are giving back to the community to assist in rebuilding Los Angeles.

Taylor Swift — who has a history of donating to victims of natural disasters — revealed on her Instagram Stories on Jan. 16 that she donated an undisclosed amount of money to various charities helping in relief efforts, including the California Community Foundation Fund, Greater Los Angeles Education Relief, Habitat for Humanity and MusiCares.

“The fires in California have devastated so many families, and it’s been heartbreaking to see the stories unfold,” the singer wrote. “So much suffering, loss and destruction. As so many embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives, there are also many amazing organizations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild.”

Others helping out include rock band the Eagles and Beyoncé, who each donated $2.5 million to LA’s FireAid benefit event and the LA Fire Relief Fund, respectively; The Weeknd, who granted $1 million to relief efforts; and Jennifer Lopez, who has contributed “countless” items from her own closet to those affected by the wildfires.

LA-based musicians have also been helping volunteer across Southern California. Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Dave Grohl and more have all been spotted dropping off donations and serving food to the first responders who’ve been tirelessly battling the blazes.

The 2025 Grammys will still take place at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles on Feb. 2.

The Recording Academy announced on Jan. 13 that the annual awards show will “proceed as planned” following the tragic wildfires that swept through various parts of Southern California in early January.

“This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” a statement from Recording Academy and MusiCares CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board of Trustees Chair Tammy Hurt read in part.

“In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort and unite like nothing else. The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community, but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines the great city of Los Angeles.”

Several events surrounding music’s biggest night have been canceled, however, including the annual star-studded parties hosted by Sony, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and BMG.

The following events are still taking place as pre-celebrations to the 67th annual Grammy Awards:

  • Friday, Jan. 31: MusiCares Persons Of The Year Charity Gala honoring the Grateful Dead
  • Saturday, Feb. 1: Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Grammy Nominees Reception and Clive Davis’ & the Recording Academy’s Pre-Grammy Fundraising Event

Ahead of the ceremony, the Recording Academy teamed up with MusiCares. Together they’ve raised and pledged “more than $2 million in emergency aid to music professionals affected by the wildfires,” a press release from Jan. 15 stated. More information can be found at musicares.org.

Live Nation is also helping out performing musicians, live music crew and live music industry workers affected by the recent wildfires. Page Six has learned that The Crew Nation Global Relief Fund is committing $1 million to assist those in need.

“LA is home to so many who help make live music possible,” Michael Rapino, President & CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, said in a statement. “And Crew Nation is continuing its core mission of helping this hardworking community through unforeseen hardship.”
